Nimbus originated in a garage – this is the founding myth of the company. The garage together with two adjacent cellar rooms are located in Botnang, Stuttgart. They served as workshop, office and exhibition space and there was a lathe, a soldering station and other tools with which the architecture student and qualified tool-maker Dietrich F. Brennenstuhl made his first luminaires in 1988.
The first was the Cirrus 0, a luminaire for a cable system. Even this early model displayed a clear and unostentatious design, coupled with top-quality materials and a high degree of technical finesses. This has remained the case until today even though the present Nimbus range almost exclusively consists of luminaires based on a completely different LED technology.
The constancy of Nimbus design is documented by numerous awards: the German Design Council's German Design Award, the Red Dot Award…
